I obtained a degree in Fundamental Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2005. Then, I received my PhD degree in Microbiology from the same University in 2010. My work focused on the role of lactobacilli and their phages in the vaginal ecosystem and the characterization of potential probiotic strains.

In January 2011, I joined the Commensals and Probiotics-Host Interactions Laboratory. From 2011 to 2017, I worked as a post-doc. First, I was focused on the commensal anti-inflammatory bacterium Faecalibacterium prausnitzii. In 2014, I became the postdoc in charge of a collaborative project funded by Danone Research that aims to study the effects and modes of action of several probiotic strains on intestinal barrier function.

Since January 2018, I am a senior research scientist in ProbiHôte. My main research field is to analyze the vertical microbiota transmission and its influence on the latter development of inflammatory and metabolic diseases.
