Seav-ly Tran, PhD

I am a research scientist extensive experience in microbiology and host-pathogen interactions.

During my thesis, I investigated Bacillus cereus virulence and mechanisms to escape the host immune response. After I graduated in 2010, I joined Dr Deborah Foster research group (Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada) where I studied the impact of gastro-intestinal stress conditions induced by human on Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) virulence. I also gained expertise on the subject of antimicrobial agents through testing the antimicrobial activity of a new synthetic peptide. I continued my work on STEC by looking at Shiga toxin translocation across the gut using a microaerobic vertical diffusion chamber system that mimics the gut low oxygen environment. This piece of work was done in Stephanie Schüller research group (UEA-Quadram Institute, UK)

I am currently the project manager of the PIMS team project “Therapeutic innovation: new antibiotic strategy”. I have been leading this project since 2017. Using a structure-based approach, we aim to identify drugs with an innovative mechanism of action. I was also the grant holder of the Initiative d’excellence Paris Saclay, NewMed2.0, new antimicrobials (2018-2019, 80k€) funding.

My other projects also focused on applied research and innovation, and concentrate around technologies associated with food safety.
