I joined the lab as part of the TranSys consortium, aimed at characterizing the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane and studied the organization of secretion systems in Bacillus subtilis.  The Sec pathway transports the majority of proteins that function in, or outside, the membrane and was previously localized in static concentrated foci displaying a spiral structure.  Analysis with natively expressed GFP fusions and TIRF microscopy revealed smaller dynamic foci distributed throughout the membrane with no preferred trajectory.
