Metagenomic data integration into a dynamical model of carbohydrate degradation in the human colon: Model and data reduction.

This modeling project fits into the wider context of building a comprehensive model of intestinal microbiota in the healthy adult, describing fiber degradation pathways. The first objective is to improve the previous model by integrating knowledge from metagenomic data analysis upon the intestinal ecosystem functional structuration. By doing so, we intend to elucidate the ecological organization of such a major pathway even though direct culture is impossible. Among other possibilities, we intend to confront data of different origins (HMP or Metahit) in order to offer insight on variability caused by ethnicity, digestive pathology or obesity.  This work follow the METAFUN project and aim at the production of general methodological tools easily translated to other functions and ecosystems. The human intestinal microbiota is distributed in almost unreachable ecological niche. The second part of this work is use the model in order to evaluate what can be inferred about unobserved part of the ecosystem from sampled ones. We propose investigate this question by using model reduction tools from control theory.
