Philippe LANGELLA

Philippe Langella is Outstanding Class Research Director at INRAE and Head of the Laboratory of Commensals and Probiotics-Host Interactions (Micalis Institute, INRAe, Jouy en Josas). He’s strongly involved in both commensals and probiotics domains to better understand the mechanisms of these bacteria and to enhance their use in human and animal health. He has authored 290 peer-reviewed international publications at the interface between microbiology and human health. He’s focussing his research on the interactions between commensal and probiotic microorganisms with the host. He’s particularly active on next-generation probiotics as his laboratory has identified in 2008 Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, the first anti-inflammatory commensal bacterium identified on the basis of human clinical data. In 2016, he has co-founded the biotech company Exeliom Biosciences in order to use F. prausnitzii as a Live Biotherapeutics. In November 2023, I won the Lifetime Achievements Grand Prix of INRAE.
